Vocational qualifications provide a clear progression to the workplace either directly or via study at a higher level. Proof comes from YouGov research, which shows that 62% of large companies have recruited employees with vocational qualifications. What’s more, well over 100,000 vocational students apply to UK universities every year and these qualifications are accepted by over 150 UK universities and higher education institutes for relevant degree programmes either on their own or in combination with A Levels.
The qualifications provide opportunities for learners to focus on the development of personal, learning and thinking skills, Functional Skills, and wider skills in a sport context, such as environmental issues and health and safety considerations. By studying a L3 vocational qualification in Sport, learners develop knowledge, understanding and skills required by the sector, including essential employability skills, and apply them in real work contexts.
The Extended Certificate (Year 1) includes 4 Units covering Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training and Programming, Professional Development in the Sports Industry and one optional unit (sports leadership or sports performance).
The Diploma (Year 2) consists of completing 6 additional units that specifically work towards opening up careers in the Fitness industry or understanding the requirements of elite performance.
Vocational qualifications use a combination of assessment styles to give students confidence they can apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace. These include written assignments, controlled assessment tasks and written exams.
The L3 Sport qualifications have been developed in the sport and active leisure sector to give our learners the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher education qualifications at university.
In addition, a number of universities have individually confirmed that the Level 3 in Sport fulfils their entry requirements, either on its own or when achieved alongside other qualifications.
The qualifications will also give our learners the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
