Batley Torchlight Procession

Batley Torchlight Procession – Monday 3 October 2016

batley procession

On Monday 3 October, students from St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College and St Benedict’s Sixth Form took part in the Batley Torchlight Procession.

The Batley Torchlight Procession, which has been running for well over sixty years, started at 7.30pm from Batley Market Square and processes to the church of St Mary of the Angels, for Benediction.

The Batley Torchlight Procession is similar to the Lourdes Torchlight Procession, being in honour of Our Lady, but this procession is much closer to home. Also similar to Lourdes, the Holy Rosary is recited as we walk along. For those who have already been to Lourdes, the Batley Torchlight Procession was a fantastic opportunity to reminisce; for those who may go to Lourdes this year as the procession will give an insight into the Lourdes experience.
