Mrs Jill Crowther our librarian was delighted to receive a recently published biography of Alfred John Brown from its author Mr John A White.
Alfred John Brown (1894-1969), an early pupil at St. Bede's (1905-1908), was best known for his classic tramping books about walking in the Yorkshire Dales, but he also wrote semi-autobiographical novels, personal stories and a book of verse.
In a recently publish biography of 'AJB', another St. Bede's Old Boy John White (1957-1964), tells the fascinating story of this prodigious walker, prolific writer and passionate Yorkshireman, who became a cult figure in his day.
This comprehensive work explores the life and literary works of one of the most widely read Yorkshire topographical writers. It re-establishes AJB's reputation as one of the most insightful Yorkshire authors of the 20th century, and it will be appreciated by Yorkshire folk everywhere.
The biography is a 500 copy, monochrome limited edition book, illustrated with photographs and maps, priced £15.00. It is self-published by the author, distributed by the printers and publishers, Smith Settle of Yeadon, and is available to order online at Amazon Books UK.
