SBSJ 40 - 28 St Mary's College Hull
Our Year 9 boys were in a buoyant mood singing (Justin Bieber songs) after a convincing win against Whitcliffe Mount in the previous round, while traveling over to Dudley Hill Rugby Club to play St Mary's College Hull. However this was to change very quickly, The game started like a game of basketball with both teams conceding early tries as the defences were none existent. The game started to change when the SBSJ defence caused a St Mary's handling error giving SBSJ good field position, which allowed for Burman Rumanshu to power his way over the line. The 1st half ended with a further score from each team and St Mary's went into the break ahead after some good kicking from their stand off.
After a team talk from Mr King and some self reflection SBSJ looked like a different team when they came out for the second half. The defence came alive with some outstanding tackles from Burman, Kyle Medas and Jack Savage. This ramped the pressure up on St Mary's and caused lots of handling errors and ill discipline. This then gave SBSJ great field position to set up attacks allowing Burman, Josh Chima and Theo Cokewright to score.
The boys finished the game strongly scoring at will with Burman spearheading the attack. Overall a good result and we now play Archbishop Sentamu Academy in the quarter finals.
Man of the match goes to Burman Rumanshu- Excellent defence and scorer of 4 tries.
