Yesterday saw our Y10 boys travel to York CC for the Yorkshire Finals 8 a side cricket tournament.
In the first game we played Bradfield School from Sheffield. SBSJ put Bradfield into bat first and they scored 72 runs in 7 overs. Mustafa Hussain taking two wickets and Hassan Javid bowling his over for only 3 runs. SBSJ then had to chase 73 for the win and started well with Hassan Javid retiring on 15 and Dylan Silson getting out caught on 14. Things did not look good when Patrick McGrath holed out to long on for only 10 runs. This left Sam Wainman and Umar Mahfooz needing 25 off the last two overs. Sam Wainman punched some great shots for 4 leaving only 6 from 3 when Umar Mahfooz hit the decisive 6 over cover.
Result - Bradfield 72 - 4 from 7 overs - SBSJ 73 - 2 from 6.3 overs
In the second and final game of the tournament the boys played York High School.
York put SBSJ into bat and they started very well with both openers retiring on 15 after 3 overs. This allowed McGrath to come in and hit a very quick 12 from 4 balls and also Wainman and Mahfooz to carry on the great batting and allow SBSJ to reach the dizzy heights of 95 runs which meant that York High School needed 96 to win averaging nearly 14 per over which was a big task with the quality SBSJ have in the bowling line up. SBSJ with their superior bowling attack got to work from the first ball not allowing York anytime to settle and score the mountain of run they needed. They finished well short of the target getting only 47.
Result - SBSJ 96 - 1 from 7 - York High School - 47 - 6
These results now take the team to represent Yorkshire at the North of England Finals which will take place at Barnsley CC on the 8th of July.
