On the 5th July SBSJ compete on behalf of the Bradford District in the West Yorkshire Athletics championships. As we arrived the students were given their bright yellow shirts for the day that indicated the district they represented. The championships had 7 districts competing, with two schools from each district. This makes the achievements of our pupils special, they competed against the best that West Yorkshire had to offer.
Jacob McLoughlin was runner up in the Shot Put with 12.9m and Burman Ramanshu was 3rd with 12.4m, while Frances Parker came third in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.34m and Margaret Ogunkoya won the girls shot put with a distance of 9.5m.
All the track events went well for SBSJ with pupils scoring in all events with Frances Parker winning the 300m in an outstanding race. The 100m sprints were ran in heats meaning that faster times gave your school more points. Our 8 sprinters ran very well all placing in outstanding races.
The end of the event saw the presentation, 8 schools would place. The standard of competition was really high but I’m happy to say that the team finished 5th overall in West Yorkshire. It really is an outstanding achievement.
