The newly formed St Vincent de Paul Youth group have been working hard on their first fundraising event this term. The parish of St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross asked if we would like to help raise money for their Inn Churches week, where the parish use the church hall to host a group of homeless men for a week. Inn Churches is a fantastic charity, recognising the real problems of homelessness in the city and trying to find a practical solution. They rotate from church to church so that there is always somewhere warm to house homeless people over the coldest months of the year.
Each church that takes part volunteers to feed the guests breakfast and dinner and provide entertainment each day. It’s something that everyone in the parish can get involved in, even if it is just making teas and coffees or helping to raise funds to pay for the meals, etc. The Youth SVP were so pleased to be asked to help and we decided to do a Grand Raffle to help raise some much needed funds.
Amongst the fabulous prizes were a voucher for a nail bar, a voucher for Cineworld, a chocolate hamper and Mr Hussain even managed to get a bike to raffle as the best prize! The SVP sold plenty of tickets and raised a grand total of £59! I am so proud of their efforts and hope to see them go on to live out the motto of the SVP – “Turning Concern into Action” – as they continue through their school careers.
