Last night saw a local diocese derby with SBSJ playing St John Fisher Harrogate in the last 64 of the English schools cup.
The game started very slowly for SBSJ and they found themselves behind to an early goal from a free kick which was parried by Apanowicz and then smashed home by the “Fisher’s” striker. Fisher’s were in control of the game at this point with a tall young man causing lots of problems in the midfield.
After some barking orders from Mr King the midfield sprung into life firing into our tall adversary which made him go somewhat off his usual destructive game.
SBSJ now found themselves having a lot more possession and this began to take its toll when Emerson Mitchell was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. He duly stepped up playing a great ball to the back post where Adrian Mangdulabnan applied the finish off his stomach which is unconventional but nonetheless effective!
Half Time saw the score at 1 - 1
The second half SBSJ were playing down the slope and with the wind which seemed to suit our high pressing game and new direct way of playing on the bog that is the fields at Ardor. SBSJ created numerous chances very quickly with their keeper making two top class saves! The pressure was building and after a good passage of play Dominic Kirton smashed the ball across the box and Ian Abe applied the finish past the sprawling mess of bodies on the line.
The game was nip and tuck for the next 12 anxious minutes and I’m sure Mr King’s hair was getting more like Mr O’Donnell’s as the minutes passed but the boys held out!
MOM - Joseph Priestley and Lorenz Cuarom
The boys will now be playing in the last 32 out of 690 of a national trophy. This is a huge achievement for the team. Well done and keep up the good work.
Match report by Mr King.
