Opera North

Opera North visited SBSJ to perform a whistle-stop “Don Giovanni” to a variety of Music and Drama students.

Celebrated as the “best opera ever” Opera North’s performance addressed #metoo as Don Giovanni, opera’s most compelling antihero, seduced his way across Europe, bedding 1003 women in Spain alone. In the story the unrepentant Don Giovanni resorts to despicable violence until his infatuated conquests and vengeful victims join forces in a bid for justice.

“ I liked how it addressed a big problem that happens to women in society and that they do not stand alone”, Eva Zacharczuk, Y10 Drama.

“Students were treated to a fantastic performance of Don Giovanni followed by a Q&A with world standard Opera Singers including Bass Matthew Stiff, ex-G4 who has previously performed to crowds of 80 000.” Mrs Ross-Shaw, Olympia Leader.

“I think what they do is really inspirational. Making connections with such big audiences is really cool. I would love to do something like it”. Ellise Moran, Y10.
