This year we entered two Yr10 teams into the Saltaire Dragon Boat Festival. We named our teams the SBSJ Slayers and SBSJ Dragons. The event hosted over 30 teams so the competition was always going to be tough. The Dragons took to the water first. For many of them this was unknown territory and the fear of capsizing wasn't worth contemplating. The Dragons put in a stellar performance and won the race beating teams from Hanson and Shipley. Next it was the Slayers turn, unfortunately they didn't live up to their name. Despite a confident display the team were beaten by the Bradford Buccaneers who won the race with Hanson in second.
The team had one final chance to make amends and a final match vs the Dragons and an unknown team. This was the ideal opportunity to seek some redemption. I am afraid to report that both teams were emphatically beaten by the unknown youngsters. The event was a great showcase of teamwork and our students demonstrated that in abundance. The fantastic weather and superb attitude from our students made for a great experience. A massive thank you goes to Louis Tolman Y10 for taking a lead in organising the event for his year group. Well Done!
