Values and Ethos

Values :/ principles or standards of behaviour; one’s judgement of what is important in life.

Ethos :/ a Greek word meaning ‘character’ that is used to describe the guiding beliefs or ideals that characterize a community, nation or ideology.

By taking inspiration from the college motto Christus Lumen Gentium (Christ Light of the Nations) we are able to articulate very clearly an understanding of the values that underpin our work and how they substantiate our distinctive Catholic ethos:

We aim to ignite within all members of our college community a love of learning, a love of each other and a love of God.

With quality teaching, supported by excellent resources and a well-planned curriculum we are able to meet the needs of students of all capabilities.

Our carefully prepared programme of liturgy and worship enables our students to value the notion of service to others while offering opportunities to reflect on their own individual faith journeys. The teachings of Christ are central to this process.

We illuminate the educational journey of all our students through expert information, advice and guidance; top class assessment for learning strategies and by offering opportunities to access a wide range of extra curricular activities that are designed to broaden horizons.

By creating a safe and happy environment where the dignity of all is respected, we develop confident and self- assured learners whose academic, sporting and artistic talents are encouraged to shine

By creating the conditions for  our students to be the best they can be we are preparing the way for them to achieve the fullness of life as promised by Christ and to be active citizens of the 21st century
