St Bede's and St Joseph's Catholic College

Sixth Form Leadership

Student leadership at St Benedict's is a way of life. In our community, we strive to lead and serve not only to build up our sixth form so that we are a lived example of God's love for us but to take an intentional and deliberate step towards cultivating our own sense of belonging.

St Benedict's is the figurehead for student leadership in the school with the Senior Student Leadership group being the beacon within KS5 and across the wider College. Here students go through a recruitment process which ensures we have the best candidates in the most appropriate roles. Our Head Boy and Head Girl are appointed in this way as well as deputies heading up the three key strands of our curriculum, Scholastica, Olympia, Ecclesia and thanks to students ownership of the systems, Wellbeing and Mental health are also included on SSL.

Beneath appointed leaders sit the range of groups of volunteer leaders. This is divided into Sixth Form CathSoc, Senior Choir, Solidarity, who work alongside younger students, and a range of smaller satellite groups such as 'The Encyclical' - The news bulleting branch of CathSoc.

Various subject based groups exist, such as the Performing Arts Ambassadors, as well as regular contributors to projects such as KS4 subject mentoring in the run up to exams and supporting College events, such as St Benedict's open evening.

In this broad understanding of leadership, high percentages of St Benedict's students respond to the call to lead and serve and in so doing, strengthen the bonds of our community as well as preparing themselves soundly for the joys and challenges in the next chapter of their journey.
