The PE department took a group of students to watch Championship Rugby Union on Friday night at Headingley Stadium. Yorkshire Carnegie played hosts to London Welsh in the pouring Leeds rain. Thanks to Mr Kings' efficient driving we had chance for a warm drink in the café and a photo opportunity with the team mascot before the match. The game saw the legendary figure of Kevin Seinfield at fly half for Yorkshire Carnegie as they looked to move to the top of the table. But after an initial opportunity to score, it was London Welsh who had the better of the game scoring a converted try in the first half. The half time cheerleaders attempted to raise the spirits of the home crowd, but it was London Welsh that added a drop goal to go 10 points clear. It wasn't until the last 5 minutes of the game where Yorkshire capitalised on space in midfield to score a converted try. Despite the best efforts of the home team and some generous added time by the match officials, Yorkshire could not cross the goal line and finished with a 3 point defeat. Yorkshire Carnegie 7 v 10 London Welsh. The boys enjoyed the opportunity to watch professional rugby and hopefully pick up a few tips for their own games!
