Stunning success in London for Youth Choir
Bradford Catholic Youth Choir - supported SBSJ - are taking part in the Gabrieli Consort's training programme and over half-term spent two days rehearsing and performing with this world-famous choir and their conductor Paul McCreesh. They gave a sold-out concert in Southwark Cathedral, but also found time to enjoy the south bank and visit Tate Modern.
The young singers, many of whom are SBSJ students and who rehearse weekly at SBSJ – already medal winners at the 2014 World Choir Games – joined forces with the internationally renowned Gabrieli Consort after being one of just five choirs nationwide selected to join the training programme, Gabrieli Roar.
Musical Director Thomas Leech is thrilled that the singers have this additional boost: ‘They already get some great opportunities, but to sing alongside a world-famous choir and another four superb youth choirs has really helped us inspire them and continued to broaden our singers’ horizons and aspirations. ’
BCYC's senior choir have enjoyed workshops with Gabrieli Choral Director Greg Beardsall and Gabrieli Consort member Kim Porter. The consort’s award-winning director, Paul McCreesh, recently visited the choir at IGNIS and said: "I'm delighted that BCYC have joined Gabrieli Roar this year, as I greatly admire the scale of the educational work the Diocese of Leeds Singing Programme provides in Bradford and across Yorkshire. I hope that being part of Gabrieli Roar will inspire a lasting love of choral music in these talented young singers, and that the opportunity to perform alongside Gabrieli's professional musicians will prove a fantastic vocal training experience."
