Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

On Thursday the 2nd February, the school celebrated its birthday with masses for the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, sometimes known as Candlemas. This day was chosen as our school feast day because, as Mr Bentley said when he spoke to all the students - it chimes well with our school motto of “Christus Lumen Gentium” or “Christ, Light of the Nations”. This feast calls to mind the baby Jesus being presented to God in the Jerusalem temple, and Simeon taking him in his arms with the words, “He will be a light to the nations.” It is our prayer that all of us connected with our community will share in the mission of Christ by being light to others through our thoughts, words and actions.

As usual, the students were very dignified in their participation of the Eucharist and our thanks go to all who ensured that the masses were a worthy yet joyful celebration of our feast day – readers, musicians, servers, those who brought up theoffertory gifts - and of course to our priests, Fr Kieron Walker and Fr Paul Grogan for their uplifting words and for sharing our special day with us.
