Bradford Catholic Youth Choir perform with internationally renowned choir

Catholic Choir

The four choirs of Bradford Catholic Youth Choir, based at and supported by St. Bede's and St. Joseph's, joined forces with the internationally-renowned Gabrieli Consort and Players, under the direction of Grammy-winning conductor Paul McCreesh, in a spectacular concert at St Joseph’s Church, Bradford.  In addition, they enjoyed input from the Consort's professional singers and vocal coach Jo Tomlinson, together with preparatory workshops from vocal expert Charles Macdougall.
The programme, featuring music from English coronations across the centuries, was part of BCYC’s participation in Gabrieli Roar, the Gabrielis’ development work with outstanding youth choirs. Our young singers sang alongside the Gabrielis’ acclaimed professional singers, and were accompanied by brass, both modern and baroque instruments, and organ, played by the Director of the Diocese’s Organists Training Programme, David Pipe. We were delighted that the Bishop of Leeds, Bishop Marcus Stock, was able to attend, along with the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Geoff Reid.
BCYC have been members of Gabrieli Roar since September 2015 and have performed with the consort in Southwark and Ely Cathedrals (Cambridge Summer Music Festival) alongside the other participating choirs, as well as enjoying workshops and continuing support from the Gabrielis’ choral directors.  BCYC is made up of children from Bradford and Keighley's Catholic primary schools and over 40 pupils from St. Bede's and St. Joseph's.

“Working with Gabrieli roar was a delight and also very educational but at the same time very fun , I liked meeting new people and getting to know better techniques to make my singing better.” (William)

"Gabrieli Roar has been a once in a lifetime opportunity. I have loved the whole experience." (Charlotte)
