May Procession

May is the month of Our Lady where Catholics pay particular devotion to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. On Friday 10th May our year 7 students celebrated this with a May Procession around the school.

This year’s May Procession started in Our Lady’s Hall. Despite last minute worries as to whether it would stay dry long enough to complete the Procession the whole service was completed despite light drizzle.

Y7 students walked in Procession, waving large flags or blue ribbons as they sang hymns in honour of Our Lady. Outside the Procession went past five short tableaux showing important moments in the life our lady including the Annunciation and the Nativity as well as other scenes.

Student Millie Fearnley writes;
The May Procession 2017 was a very exciting and very enthusiastic.

For our second annual May Procession, the service was led by two Year 8 students Amelia Fullerton and Beth Edwards.

During the service a member from each year and form read out prayers they had made in their forms. There were also two singers from Y8 myself and Ella Green and Miss Kitson accompanied us on the piano. All the Year 7 students really enjoyed waving their flags and ribbons to hymns about Mary, such as, Ave Maria, I’ll Sing a Hymn to Mary and Flowers of the Rarest as well as other hymns. Overall, it was a very exciting service!
