For this year’s Y8 retreat The Youth Village was selected after last year’s successful retreat there.
Everyone, students and staff alike all agreed they had had a fabulous time.
The weather was good, the accommodation was excellent, the food was wholesome, and the retreat team were first class.
The centre was opened a few years ago by Ant and Dec and serves as a retreat centre for Hexham and Newcastle Diocese.
Fr Dermott Donnelly, Dec’s brother, had been instrumental in establishing the Youth Village.
The theme of our retreat was “Reconnect”, and we reflected on how we each carry within us the image of God which assures us that we are loved by the Father just as we are, despite the many pressures on young people to conform to other stereotypes.
The team did a great job in helping us explore this through a variety of activities such as media clips, group challenges, team tasks, dance, drama - as well as bringing together in prayer all our reflections and offering them to the one who delights in us just the way he created us.
The students were certainly inspired and hopefully energised to go and tell others about what a great time can be had should they take up these opportunities to leave the classroom behind and to come away on retreat.

The Year 8 Retreat in May was truly something to remember! We went to the Emmaus Youth Village near Consett in County Durham and we had an amazing time with our friends. We did lots of brilliant outdoor activities and we also had time for reflection at the end of the day. The staff there were really helpful and kind and they were there for anything that we needed. Thank you to Mr Copley and Mrs Linacre who went on the trip with us – hope we weren’t too much of a handful!
