Our year 8 netball team made a flying start in the league competition on Wednesday night. Two games and two victories has given the girls great confidence for the second round of fixtures next Wednesday.
Game 1 - SBSJ 6 v Queensbury 4
A good opening game by our girls, they controlled the game from start to finish. It is difficult to name a woman of the match as it was a great team performance. Their passing was consistently accurate and the use of space allowed us to keep possession of the ball. Some fantastic shooting from Haven-Grace and Elin allowed us to always stay 2 goals ahead of our opposition. As it was their first game, they played very tentatively, often apologising to their opponent if they made contact and at times let their opposition have the ball if it was loose. This changed throughout the first game and by the second game the girls where always first to the ball.
Game 2 - SBSJ 6 V Dixons Trinity 3
Although the score line doesn't reflect this, the second game against Dixons was much tougher. The game was constantly end to end, with this brought nerves for both set of shooters. It was Dixons Trinity who broke first to make it 0 -1. The girls showed great resilience from here and managed to make it 3-1 by half time. The second half of the game saw Dixons Trinity improve their shooting performance and they made a great comeback, with 3 minutes on the clock the score was 3 -3. However, our girls showed great spirit, within 40 seconds and with two excellent shots from Haven-Grace the score was now 5- 3. We controlled the game for the remaining time and even managed to score another goal. This game could have gone either way, but as I said at the start it was a great team performance and the girls should be proud of what they achieved.
