Last week the University of Manchester were running a 'This Girl Can' week and on Wednesday 31st October the University ran a 3 hour Water Polo session at the Manchester Aquatic Centre and invited us to attend as we did last year. The girls were split up into age groups and had the opportunity to do some water polo training in the Olympic sized pool, which is one of the best facilities in the country . The training sessions were led by members of the Universities Women's Water Polo team as well as a Great Britain Player. The girls, when not in the pool also took part in workshops led by the University which focused on areas such as body confidence, getting girls into sport and how taking part in sport and being part of a team can help build confidence and is a good way of keeping fit and healthy and all the benefits that come with that.
There was another school that attended and overall there was around 55 girls who took part in the event. We took 40 girls and the University couldn't believe that they were all from our school at first. The girls seemed to really enjoy themselves and I thought it was very worthwhile experience for everyone involved, especially for the new year 7 students who fit in naturally with the rest of the Water Polo squad. The girls were excellent in their behaviour and represented the school with pride.
Well done to all the girls and thank you to Mrs Foster who is a great help with the girls water polo teams on events such as these.
