The U13 Girls English Schools Water Polo National Final held at Northampton School for Boys. The final comprised of the top 6 girls teams who progressed from their respective semi-finals.
SBSJ finished 4th on the day which ranks us the 4th best U13 Girls Water Polo team in the country for 2018!
This was another fantastic achievement for girls Water Polo here at St Bede’s and St Joseph’s. This particular group have worked so hard over the last couple of months. The 4–0 semi-final victory over Manchester High school which sealed our place in the final was a particular highlight of the campaign. The amount of hours (which includes before school, lunch time, after school and in the school holidays) that has been put in from the entire team to give themselves the best possible chance is inspiring. Unfortunately just days before the final we had to overcome a massive setback when we were informed that two of our main players were ineligible to play in the final. It was an upsetting time for the team but they all rallied together to overcome this adversity and still performed to very good standard. I said to the girls on our journey home that throughout life we all have setbacks and disappointments but it’s how you react in a positive way to overcome them that’s the most important thing.
The whole team should be proud how they conducted themselves, especially the two girls who were unable to play. They still came to help and support the team, which I think takes great courage. As well as doing well at the tournament the girls were brilliant in their behaviour and manners whilst away. We had lots of comments at our hotel/restaurant on how well behaved the girls were and we had lots of people wishing us luck for the final. Also a big thank you to Mrs Foster for coming to help out with the team, something I and the girls really appreciate!
Well done girls, you did yourselves, your families, the school and myself proud!
