On Wednesday afternoon our Y8 team travelled to Hanson in the second league game of the season. It was freezing! Our boys used the smooth 3G surface to pass the ball around nicely in the first half and created numerous wonderful chances; popping in three of them to take a commanding lead. Lewis Kershaw was the main threat with his pace and power terrorising the Hanson rearguard. I am sure one of his two goals was a cross - looping in the far corner after another penetrating burst down the right. Sam Adams was the other goalscorer with a jinky run and finish. Now if our lads could head a ball then we wouldn't have conceded the two goals before half time. Ducking rather than heading isn't in any of the coaching manuals that I've seen! Israel Webber restored the two goal cushion before half time.
In the second half it was a dogged display to hold onto the lead. Hanson capitalising on our inability to track back on one occasion after a rare sortie forward into opposition territory. Alas, we held on and took the three points back to Ignis.
Two wins from two is a good start. We play again next Tuesday.
Man of the match was Declan Thompson (one of St Mark's finest) who commanded the defence well and was able to read the play very effectively all afternoon.
