The 2019, Tall Ship sailing project is seeking funding to create an 8-day sail-training course for a sail trainee crew of 14 young people, plus 2 teaching staff from our Catholic College.

The total cost of the project is £8.5K

Donations: Please make cheques out to St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College.

Sail-trainees from St Bede’s and St Joseph’s Catholic College are sailing from Oban on the west coast of Scotland through the Caledonian Canal to Aalborg, Denmark in the tall-ship, Maybe to the start of the 2019, International Tall Ships Race.  This voyage will bring young people together to build strong relationships in and across the school and wider community of Bradford, enabling our young people to fulfil their true potential by working together to support each other.

Our sail trainees will be trained in a range of nautical and mindfulness skills, including sheet-hauling, chart reading, swabbing the deck and positive thinking!

We are actively seeking sponsorship and carrying out fundraising events supported by parents, local businesses have also offered their support for the voyage to take place.

All monies received will go to the programme provider www.maybe-sailing.com through www.rightchoiceacademy.org to pay for the voyage. This will allow those attending to experience a life changing opportunity on a tall ship on the high seas.

The ‘Maybe-Sailing’ project is an opportunity for our young people to improve their life skills in communication, teamwork and leadership, skills and abilities that are crucial in the world of work as well as academia. This project will keep sail trainees active and engaged with their own development 24 hours a day for eight days!

The most important aspect of the project is that it is socially inclusive: multi-faith, multi-cultural and gender inclusive. It will also include sail trainees ‘at risk’ in education who will be supported to develop spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and academically by achieving the RYA Competent Crew Certificate on arrival in Aalborg.
